TypeScript

TypeScript is JavaScript with types: the compiler checks how data flows through the code before it runs. I write servers, interfaces, admin panels and AI integrations in it, so one language covers the whole product

What is TypeScript and why do I write everything in it?

When one engineer builds the whole product, the types are the colleague who reads every change. TypeScript lets me move fast with AI agents and still catch a broken contract between the server and the interface before a release

How I use TypeScript

  • One language from server to screen. The game server, the site, the phone controllers and the database layer of my multiplayer platform share TypeScript types, so a change in the protocol shows up as a compile error, not as a bug in a live room. Read the case study.
  • Checked input. Data from the browser, from other APIs and from language models is checked against a schema before it is used. On this site every CMS draft goes through such a schema.
  • Working with AI agents. Since 2023 I build with AI agents every day. A strict type check is the fastest review of what an agent wrote.
  • Releases. A production build of this site does not start unless the type check passes.

When I choose TypeScript and its limits

I use TypeScript by default for anything that will live longer than a weekend. The cost is a build step and some time spent on types; the return is code that can be changed without fear.

Types do not check data at runtime, so outside input still needs validation. And for a quick script or a data experiment, Python or plain JavaScript can be the faster tool; I use Python when a task needs its libraries.
